NWP National Bee Diagnostic Centre Presents, Peace Country Pollinators.
Get to know Northern Alberta’s bees. In addition to the domestic honey bee, Alberta is home to more than 300 wild bee species. This half-day workshop will introduce you to some of our wild pollinators and how you can help them thrive in your own backyards. All proceeds support our pollinator conservation and monitoring initiatives.
Dr. Gail MacInnis, Pollination Research Scientist and Elena Battle, NBDC Honey Bee Technician, will share their insights about the bee species thriving in our Northern region. This session will include a local bee and flower species handout with information on habitat and flower varieties for wild pollinators. A short introduction to honey bee and beekeeping as well as a packet of regional pollinator seed mix is also included. Weather permitting, participants will join the Bee Team on a short walk outside to identify wild pollinators.
