Name: Jared Perry
Jersey Number. Is there a story behind it? No, my go to numbers for Club were #2 or #13. But last year they were both taken so I went with #3. It’s a little of both of those numbers.
Hometown: Edmonton, Alberta
High School: St. Francis Xavier High School
At what age did you start playing your sport? What drew you to the game? I’ve been playing since I was under 5, but I’ve been playing competitively since Grade 7. My cousins were into soccer and they helped draw me to the game and to stay interested in as I grew older.
What is your fondest memory of your sport? I have two memories that stick out to me, one is when my team went to Houston, Texas to play in a tournament. The weather was hot, but most of our games were in the morning and overall it was an amazing experience. The second one is when my academy went to England and we got to watch professional games, it was truly an experience.
Any pre or post-game rituals that you would be willing to share? How do you prepare? On away games, I try and be the last off the bus. For home and away games, I’ve been listening to one certain song before we go out for warm-up to get in focus and be ready mentally for the game.
What are your future goals? I would like to finish my five at GPRC, and then pursue my CPA designation. I think I would also like to stay in Grande Prairie and maybe help coach the future wolves.
From Head Coach Chris Morgan:
Any special game moments, stats you’d like to share? Jared is always a solid performer for the team. He knows his role as a defender and executes it really well. He rarely gets praise due to the position he plays but he is a vital cog in the team. He is dependable in games, is always focused and prepares well.
What does this player bring to the dynamics of the team? Jared is a super quick defender who never gives attackers a minute on the ball and is tigerish in the tackle. His distribution and link up play has improved this year which is great to see. Jared is versatile and can play in multiple positions and is a real team player. He is a joy to coach, cares about the game, shows good discipline and works hard both academically and on the field.
