GPRC announces launch of Centre for Teaching and Learning.
GRANDE PRAIRIE - Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) announces the launch of its new Centre for Teaching and Learning, which provides both the Grande Prairie and Fairview campuses the ability to advance academic excellence by increasing faculty access to enhanced teaching practices.
As the College continues on the path of becoming the northern centre of post-secondary excellence, the focus remains on providing students with a superior academic experience. The Centre for Teaching and Learning assists instructors in developing innovative teaching and learning opportunities by encouraging collaboration, supporting scholarship and connecting faculty with the wider academic community.
“The development of the Centre for Teaching and Learning provides GPRC students with state-of-the-art educational opportunities. By providing faculty with resources to advance online curriculum development, the institution can provide students with a top-tier, career-oriented curriculum that sets learners up for future success,” said Dr. Andrew Dunlop, Director of Research and Innovation, and the Centre for Teaching and Learning.
The virtual centre will be a faculty-led resource hub providing GPRC instructors with various professional training supports and resource materials. Faculty will have the opportunity to enhance instructional and curriculum development skills, create an innovative curriculum, produce new learning opportunities, and engage in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Providing an unparalleled student experience is a key priority for GPRC. Establishing this new virtual centre for faculty to learn from one another and share best practices will result in a more inclusive educational experience for students as they experience improved teaching models, new opportunities for experiential learning, and new educational environments.
“The Centre for Teaching and Learning is a contemporary approach to post-secondary teaching and education that helps GPRC to respond to the emerging needs of our students and our communities. This model allows our stellar faculty to foster best practices, collaborate with other educators and continue to advocate for excellence in education. By identifying learning models with high success rates, striving for pedagogical excellence, and implementing new methods and curriculum, we ensure that all GPRC students receive a world-class education,” said Dr. Robert Murray, President and CEO of GPRC.
The ongoing development of the Centre for Teaching and Learning is being led by a College steering committee from various departments. The steering committee includes:
