The health and safety of our learning community is our top priority. Northwestern Polytechnic's approach
remains underpinned by public health guidance and the latest Alberta government
information.
We are pleased to share that effective February 9, 2022, we will be lifting our mandatory vaccination policy.
This is an encouraging and progressive step in our region's recovery. We will be working with the province to determine when changes can be made to our mandatory face mask policy.
As our province celebrates this important pandemic milestone, we are optimistic that everyone's enduring commitment to hygiene and illness etiquette, along with added environmental supports will continue to contribute to a thriving and safe campus.
Thank you again for everything you do and continue to do to move our learning community forward.

COVID-19 Approach
As the pandemic risk in Alberta begins trending downward, we are counting on our learning community to use good judgement. We've all learned excellent hygiene habits and understand the importance of stopping the spread of germs by staying home when unwell. These are powerful tools that go a long way in protecting our most vulnerable community members.
In the coming weeks, Northwestern Polytechnic will continue to follow our enhanced cleaning and disinfection routines, including additional electrostatic spraying in classrooms and laboratories. We will also continue to make hand sanitizing stations and disposable three-layer protective masks available at multiple points throughout our campuses.
Vaccination
Full vaccination is the best way to safeguard yourself from getting infected and lessen the severity of your symptoms if you do fall ill. Alberta Health Services is booking appointments for COVID-19 doses and boosters. Anyone aged 18 and older who received a second dose five months ago is now eligible for their third shot.
Symptomatic Individuals
People with COVID-19 symptoms that are not related to a pre-existing illness or health condition are
legally required to isolate as per Alberta's isolation requirements. By doing an at-home rapid test
you can help detect infection early and stop the spread.
Rapid Testing Guidelines
Core symptoms include:
- Shortness of breath
- Runny nose
- Sore throat
- Loss of taste or smell
Students, faculty and staff who start to experience COVID-19 core symptoms while on campus that are
unrelated to a pre-existing illness or health condition must immediately return home and follow
Alberta's isolation
requirements.
- If you test positive for COVID-19, you must self-isolate from Northwestern Polytechnic premises as per Alberta's isolation requirements.
