The wait is almost over. Northwestern Polytechnic’s (NWP) Wolves women’s hockey team is ready to take the ice at home for the first time, and the community is invited to be part of the historic moment.

The Wolves will celebrate their home opener on Friday, October 9, at Weyerhaeuser Arena in the Design Works Centre, marking the first home game for NWP’s inaugural women’s hockey team. The Wolves are one of seven teams competing in the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference (ACAC).

“Launching our first women’s hockey team is a big moment for NWP and for the athletes, coaches, and staff who have worked to get here,” said NWP President and CEO, Dr. Vanessa Sheane.

“We’re excited to bring the Wolves to the ice and even more excited to have our community there cheering them on.”

The celebration begins before the 7:00 pm puck drop with a community tailgate hosted by the City of Grande Prairie and Northwestern Polytechnic. Fans are invited to gather in the arena parking lot, grab a hot dog, and get ready to cheer on the Wolves.

“This is an exciting new chapter for women’s hockey in our community,” said Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton. “We’re looking forward to seeing the community come together, support the team and help create an enduring fan base and home-ice atmosphere for the Wolves.”

Game admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids, with tickets available at 6:00 pm at the door.

The Wolves are inviting fans to bring their energy, wear their colours, and help make their first home game one to remember.
