Registration can be completed online through your MyTradesecrets account, in person, or by emailing us a completed registration form. Please note that payment can not be made over the phone until a completed enrolment form is received.

What to Expect

Typically, apprentices train for four years and then write provincial examinations set by industry and the Government of Alberta. Upon successful program completion, you will be certified by the Province as a qualified tradesperson or journeyperson. At this time, you may also write interprovincial exams to obtain Red Seal status.

Getting Started

To become an apprentice, you must be at least 16 years old and meet the minimum educational requirements for your trade.

When you first registered for your class, you would have received an automated confirmation email. This email is different from your Confirmation of Enrollment letter, which is typically requested for RESP purposes.

Your Confirmation of Enrollment letter can be accessed through your myNWP account. If you do not have an account, you will need to request one before proceeding. Once you are signed in, go to your document library, where your letter will be available.

Northwestern Polytechnic issues T2202 forms for the previous tax year near the end of February. You can access these forms through your myNWP account under the My Finances tab. If you have not yet created your myNWP account, one will be set up for you when your tax forms are available. At that time, you will receive an email from a Do-Not-Reply address containing a temporary password. Upon your first login, you will be prompted to change your password and set up a security question.

If you are not prompted, you can update this information manually by navigating to the My Profile tab, selecting Account Information, and then choosing either myNWP Password or Security Question from the left menu. Once logged in, go to the My Finances tab and select the T2202/T4A Tax Form link. Tax forms will be listed for each year you are eligible. If your SIN is not displayed, please update the information and click Save.

Access myNWP

To set up a myNWP account, you need your NWP Student ID. First, go to the Self-Service home page and click Request Account, which is located below the login button. This will prompt you for your ID, legal first and last names, and date of birth; enter them in the format shown beside each field. Once the information is entered, your account will be created, and the password will be sent to the email address we have on file. You can then return to the Self-Service home page and enter your username (NWP ID) and password. You should then be prompted to set a new password that meets the noted password requirements. You will also be asked to set up a security question that can be used to reset the password or retrieve your username/ID if you forget one or both in the future.
