Northwestern Polytechnic’s Single-Campus Model Moving Forward

With the future of the Fairview campus now confirmed, Northwestern Polytechnic (NWP) is continuing forward with clarity, focus, and a firm commitment to strengthening training and skill development in northern Alberta.

“Northwestern Polytechnic is grateful for our role in supporting the Fairview community over the past decade and the relationships built along the way,” said Dr. Vanessa Sheane, President and CEO. “We wish everyone success in their next chapter with Northern Lakes College.”

NWP's recently announced transition to a single-campus model is on track, with winding down of operations in Fairview in August, and new Grande Prairie-based programming set to commence this fall at the Polytechnic’s main campus and NWP’s adjacent Skilled Trades Training Centre located at 112 Street and 100 Avenue.

With today’s announcement, NWP can confirm that the following apprenticeship programs will welcome students in Grande Prairie for Fall 2026: 

  • Automotive Service Technician 
  • Carpenter
  • Electrician
  • Gasfitter
  • Heavy Equipment Technician
  • Industrial Mechanic
  • Instrumentation and Control Technician
  • Parts Technician
  • Plumber
  • Steamfitter - Pipefitter
  • Welder

Other evolving program details are as follows: 

  • Health Care Aide and Practical Nurse - Programs will continue to be offered at NWP’s Health Education Centre, conveniently located within the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital
  • ThinkBIG - Completion of final intakes in Grande Prairie prior to Finning program conclusion in April 2027
  • Veterinary Technology - Select courses temporarily being offered in Grande Prairie from September 2026 to January 2027 to accommodate graduating students in advance of NWP program sunsetting
