Description This is a 4 week directed study course which includes required readings, discussions, written assignments and travel. Part of the course will take place on site for one week, and three weeks will be spent traveling from Cairo (Egypt) to Istanbul (Turkey) through Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. The combination of guided readings with assignments, direct observation of the major historical sites, and the cultural immersion will help students understand and appreciate the making of Islamic history up close and personal.
