Admission requirements for University Transfer programs include:

  • English 30-1 and four grade 12 subjects, as specified by the chosen program.
  • Normally, the program will require a minimum overall average of 60 percent.
  • If applicants have a mark of less than 50 percent on a high school course, that course will not be considered for admission.

Having the minimum admission requirements for entry into Northwestern Polytechnic's University Transfer programs does not guarantee applicant acceptance. Admission to partner universities varies from program to program and will be evaluated at the time of application.

Open Studies Eng 30-1 Admission to Open Studies allows you to take a variety of courses, including Academic Upgrading and Credit, to either meet admissions requirements, or to explore a range of academic and career possibilities. Applicants must have a high school diploma or be 18 years of age. Students must still have the high school prerequisites to the courses they require or wish to take.

* Social Studies 30-2 is an accepted group D subject when Social Studies 30-1 is not used for admission. Two subjects of the same field cannot be presented for admission.

* *The University of Alberta does not admit students directly into year one of Bachelor of Commerce. Students are required to complete a pre-professional year of study with a competitive GPA to be considered for admission to year two of this degree program. Students can complete this pre-professional year of study at Northwestern Polytechnic.

*** Admission will be granted to a student into the University Transfer Education program if the student presents the requirements as laid out above. However, each major/minor or chosen route (elementary or secondary) will require specific courses completed at high school to complete courses required within the degree. Math 30-1 or Math 30-2 is required for Elementary route students to complete the 6 credits of Math courses required within the program.

University Transfer program admission requirements for adult students who are 21 years of age or older on the first day of classes are as follows:

  • English 30-1 and up to three additional 30-level subjects, depending on the program.
  • A minimum grade of 50 percent in each course and a minimum overall average of 60 percent.
  • Placement assessments may be required.

Admission requirements for out-of-province students include completion of high school and presentation of the equivalents of the Alberta Education high school subjects required for admission to the chosen program.

Your application to a program will be considered if you meet the admission requirements described in the Admissions section of the Academic Calendar
