A student's preferred name may be used on unofficial NWP documents, tools, and platforms, including class lists, myClass, myNWP, and student ID cards and email addresses.

Make it Official

While updating your account to include your preferred name does not change your legal name or records with NWP or government agencies, it does help to ensure that your preferences are reflected while you are on campus. To get the ball rolling

  • Email studentinfo@nwpolytech.ca to request to have a preferred name added to your account.
  • Visit us at the Student Services Office (H103 - Grande Prairie Campus or FAC131 – Fairview Campus).

An update can be made at any time, however, we recommend that students make their preferences known as early as possible to ensure NWP documents, tools, and platforms reflect the desired changes.

Legal Name Logistics

A student's legal name will appear on official documents, including:

  • NWP transcripts
  • Parchment/convocation documents
  • Reports to Advanced Education
  • Tax forms
  • Financial Aid, Scholarship, and Bursary documents
  • Confirmation of Enrolment

If your legal name has changed since applying for admission, you’ll need to update your records. Simply fill out and submit the Change of Name and/or Address form to the Registrar's Office along with legal documentation confirming your name change. Acceptable forms of identification include a valid driver's license, passport, birth certificate, or marriage license.
