All the Day's Details

Convocation is just around the corner, and you should be prepared. This information will help you plan the perfect day.

On the day of Convocation, all NWP parking lots will be available for graduates and guests. All stalls are free on a first-come, first-parked basis.

Get ready to gown up. In keeping with the traditions of higher learning, all graduates must gown up before the Convocation. Northwestern Polytechnic will provide you with a graduation gown, hood/stole and cap (mortarboard) for the Ceremony.

All gowns are the customary Cambridge shape and are made from dark navy blue material, falling below the knee, with full-length sleeves. Mortarboards are dark navy blue and include tassels with a golden graduation year pendant hanging from the band, worn forward and to the left. Gowns, hoods/stoles are not for sale and must be returned after the ceremony. Caps and tassels make a terrific memento and are yours to keep.

Please dress comfortably for the ceremony and the weather. Any combination of suit, blazer, dress pants, turtleneck, dress shirt, tie, suit, dress, pants, or skirt is acceptable. During the Convocation ceremony, students' hands must be free to accept handshakes. Please check your totes, purses, briefcases, coats, sweaters, or flowers for safekeeping in the gown-up room, or leave them with family members or friends.

The Grande Prairie grown-up room is staffed throughout the day, so the belongings you check will be safe. Students are required to sign in upon arrival and sign out upon returning their gowns at the end of the ceremony.
