Upholding Standards The Animal Care Committee (ACC) is responsible for overseeing the use and treatment of animals used in teaching and research at our institution. The ACC ensures that all animals used for teaching or research purposes are treated ethically and that staff, faculty, and students interacting with animals in an official capacity on our campuses thoroughly understand their responsibility to uphold institutional standards for animal care and meet or exceed Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) guidelines. As such, all research involving animals in teaching and research must receive approval from the Animal Care Committee (ACC). If you see or hear something about animals, conditions or procedures that you do not feel comfortable with, do not remain silent. Talk to the people around you, the instructor or the animal care staff in charge of the animals. Often, it is a matter of not understanding what is being done and why. If you are still not satisfied with the explanation, please submit an animal welfare compliance concern using the anonymous form below.
