Plumbers plan, install, and service plumbing systems, fixtures, piping, equipment, and controls. These piping systems transport water, waste, gases or hot liquids. 

Other responsibilities include studying building plans and specifications to determine the plumbing layout and required materials, locating and marking the positions of connections and fixtures, cutting holes through walls and floors to accommodate pipes, selecting the type and size of pipe required, and measuring, cutting, threading, bending, clamping, and solvent-cementing or soldering pipe.

Get the Green Light for Registration

Before you apply to be an apprentice or register for classroom instruction, you must meet Apprenticeship and Industry Training eligibility and the following minimum education entrance requirements:

  • English 20-2
  • Math 20-3
  • Science 10

OR

A pass mark in all five Canadian General Educational Development (GED) or Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) tests.

OR

Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training entrance exam.
