This course builds on Digital Design I, expanding students’ knowledge of design software platforms. Through a combination of lectures and projects students will work with increasingly complex and nuanced approaches to design. Projects will focus on integrating a broader engagement with design contexts and contemporary trends, including the integration of AI in the design process.

This course provides an in-depth engagement with colour theory through studio-based practices as it relates to graphic design. Students engage in projects that broaden their understanding of the cultural and aesthetic implications of colour.

This course further explores principles and practices of Typography with an emphasis on digital design. Students will study the significant influence of type with particular emphasis on contemporary and emerging approaches. Utilizing skills from Typography I, students create digital projects intended for print media.

Visual Communication is designed for students to develop visual literacy and critical skills when responding to diverse forms of media. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, this course includes the study of cinema, photography, visual art, performance, print, as well as digital formats. Students engage in a series of written and oral assignments in response to diverse forms of mediated communication. Visual Communication is a foundational course to learn transferable skills required for both academic and professional settings. These skills include writing, ethical research, oral presentations, AI integration, as well as increasing competency in describing and discussing visual media.

An introduction to the principles, practices and history of Typography. Students will gain an understanding of typographic terminology, typeface classifications and the importance of type in visual communication. Projects in this course emphasize an analogue approach to 2D organization, design, and creation.

Design History provides students with an understanding of the history of design and how it is intertwined with cultural histories. This course introduces students to practices and principles of design that evolved over time to create the context for design as a contemporary practice. This course is lecture-based and requires students to conduct research as well as writing.
