Automotive Service Technicians adjust, test and repair engines, steering systems, braking systems, drive trains, vehicle suspensions, electrical systems and air-conditioning systems, and do wheel alignments. In large shops, they often specialize in repairing, rebuilding, and servicing specific parts, including transmissions, engines, electrical components, and more. In smaller shops, automotive service technicians may work in a broader variety of repair jobs.

Get the Green Light for Registration

Before you apply to be an apprentice or register for classroom instruction, you must meet Apprenticeship and Industry Training eligibility and the following minimum education entrance requirements:

  • English 20-2
  • Math 20-3
  • Science 10

OR

A pass mark in all five Canadian General Educational Development (GED) or Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) tests

OR

Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training entrance exam
