Students will learn culinary and kitchen practices while gaining a more thorough understanding of restaurant and hotel food operations. Culinary topics of study include food safety, stocks and soups, sauces, main dishes, appetizers, sides, and desserts. Students will study menu planning and costing; perform culinary research; and plan, cost, and prepare a 4-course dinner. Overall, the focus will be on excellent culinary standards and operations. Students must have completed Food Safe, Basic First Aid, and WHMIS certifications prior to working in the kitchen.

This course provides an introduction to computer communications and computer networks. Topics will include communication hardware and software, protocols, local area and wide area networks, and network management.

This course focuses on the fundamentals of Data Science methods to extract nontrivial, previously unknown, and potentially useful information from databases. It covers data exploration and preparation, data visualization, and computing with data using machine learning algorithms for tasks such as classification, clustering, and outlier detection in structured datasets, along with model evaluation techniques.

Students are expected to use proper dental terminology and identify normal tooth anatomy, function, eruption and dental formula. Students learn to instruct clients on dental home care procedures. Common dental problems and diseases are covered with emphasis on small animal and equine patients. Proper use, care and maintenance of dental equipment is covered. Principles of dental radiography are discussed. Proficiency in basic dental prophylaxis will be developed using live animals and cadavers.

Biological, cognitive and social aspects of psychological development will be explored, with special emphasis on infancy, childhood and adolescence.

Students will learn the principles of radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasonography and endoscopy. Identification, use, care and maintenance of equipment and supplies is covered with emphasis on safety. Students will learn to position patients, operate equipment and develop images that produce diagnostic quality results.

This course covers techniques for solving differential equations, including first-order equations, second-order linear equations (reduction of order, variation of parameters), the Laplace transform, linear systems, and power series solutions. Applications include separation of variables for Partial Differential Equations (PDEs), along with topics in Taylor and Fourier series, and convergence tests.

This course is an introduction to the technical and conceptual aspects of digital design. Utilizing lectures, technical exercises, and creative projects, students will employ digital programs to process ideas and generate professionally designed digital outputs.

An introductory level studio course designed to provide a foundation in drawing primarily using a broad range of monochromatic media. Emphasis will be placed on drawing fundamentals, primarily focusing on observational approaches.

This course will expand knowledge and experience of drawing materials, techniques, and methods. Emphasis will be placed on observation and applying drawing skills in increasingly complex ways. Students will be introduced to a range of strategies including conceptual and expressive approaches.

The course will cover major developments in art from the turn of the 20th century to the mid-20th century. It will focus on various art forms and movements from both non-Western and Western contexts. These may include painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, museum displays, exhibition practices, and the relationships between art, techniques of expression, politics, culture, revolutions, and everyday life. It will also explore key terminology associated with 20th-century art, such as modernism, modernity, and the avant-garde.

Truck and machine electrical and accessory circuits are examined in this course.

This course will introduce students to basic electrical and electronic fundamentals. Topics included are: electrical circuits; electrical components, schematics and symbols; the use of test equipment and battery service and testing.

The course will include a review of analytic geometry; functions, limits, continuity; differentiation of elementary functions; applications to maxima, minima and rates; introduction to integration; Fundamental Theorem; numerical integration; and areas and other applications of the definite integral to areas.

Applications of integration to areas, volumes, work force and arc lengths are included in this course. Differentiation and integration of exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions; techniques of integration; indeterminate forms and improper integrals.

The course provides a review of programming principles (specification, implementation and testing), and an extension of object-oriented concepts from CS1140 including data abstraction, modular program construction and program reuse. The emphasis is on dynamic data structures (eg. lists, string, stacks, queues, tables), and their associated algorithms (eg. recursion, traversal, sorting, searching, hashing).

This course provides opportunities to explore emerging technologies. Emphasis is placed on identifying, researching, and presenting current technological topics for class consideration and discussion. Upon completion, students will be able to understand the importance of keeping abreast of technological changes that affect the office professional.

This course provides a broad understanding of employee and labour relations in Canada. Topics included are the collective bargaining process, perspectives from employee, management, and union, and the history of unions. This course will also look at the challenges of employee and labour relations and using resources to help resolve these issues.

A comprehensive exploration of both theoretical principles and practical applications crucial for delivering effective patient care. This course employs a hybrid approach, combining online learning modules with in-person instruction and patient engagement to provide students with a rounded understanding of medical theory, practical skills, assessment techniques, clinical presentations, and diagnostics pertinent to the management of ill and injured patients.

The course emphasizes active application of acquired theoretical knowledge through participation in skills, scenarios, and simulation environments. Through simulated patient care scenarios, and patient engagement students refine their ability to handle emergency calls efficiently, administer safe patient care, and navigate medical and trauma situations with assuredness.

Within this course is a 16-hour Patient Engagement which offers hands-on experience for Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) students, focusing on assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills essential for professional practice. Under the guidance of an assigned instructor/preceptor, students will practice and refine skills in a supervised environment. Throughout the patient engagement, students will uphold the standards of the profession and represent Northwestern Polytechnic with integrity. They will integrate the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice into their professional conduct, while incorporating communication, history-taking, assessment techniques, clinical presentations, and diagnostic findings.

This blended approach equips students with the skills, confidence, and expertise necessary to respond effectively to the complexities of emergency medical situations.

Primarily a lab based course where the students' knowledge will be challenged and troubleshooting skills developed. Students will be required to successfully diagnose and repair engine faults in a real world setting.
