Business & Office Administration
The Department of Business and Office Administration has been setting students up for success in business for forty years. Our programs are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to succeed in a business or office setting. We offer a range of academic possibilities: multiple Business and Office Administration certificates, Business Administration diplomas with a variety of majors, a University Transfer program for business degrees, and an onsite BBA degree completion program through our collaboration with SAIT.
Master of Business Administration
Pursue your professional passions for business leadership or entrepreneurship with a Master of Business Administration from the University of Northern British Columbia, hosted by Northwestern Polytechnic.
Examine contemporary business theory such as organizational behaviour, marketing, finance and more, with a specific focus on northern topics and issues. Unlock senior career opportunities in all sectors including natural resource development, manufacturing, non-profit, government, banking, health care and more. Develop advanced management, analytical and leadership skills that can expand new career opportunities or inspire your next business adventure.

A partnership with SAIT allows students who complete a Business Administration diploma with an Accounting or Management specialization at our instituion to remain at the Grande Prairie campus to complete a Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting or Management major) through a collaboration with SAIT. Students must normally complete all degree requirements within eight years, beginning with the year admission to the program was granted.
- Possible Careers Include: Chartered professional accountant, bookkeeper, auditing clerk, accounts payable clerk
Business Administration
The one-year certificate program introduces students to basic business functions and serves as a foundation for all diploma programs. Diploma students major in their second year, choosing routes in Accounting, Financial Services, General Business, Management, or Marketing. Graduates are well prepared to step directly into the workforce or to pursue additional education by applying to transfer credit towards university degrees at a number of different institutions across Alberta.
- Possible Careers: Accounting assistant, management trainee, not-for-profit coordinator, office manager, retail manager, social media coordinator, entrepreneur, event planner, loan officer, insurance agent
Commerce
A BComm is an excellent base for many professional designations including the CPA, CPHR, CFP, RPP, and more. We offer up to two years of course work towards the BComm at the University of Alberta or Athabasca University, as well as the Bachelor of Management degree at the University of Lethbridge. Transfers to other institutions, such as the University of Calgary or MacEwan University, are also possible.
- Possible Careers: Accountant, investor relations, investment banking, trading, asset management, marketing, stakeholder engagement, human resource management
Office Administration
Choose from three specialized one-year certificates with the opportunity to complete Microsoft Office Specialist Certifications. A practicum component provides students with valuable workplace experience before they enter the workforce. Specializations include Basic Bookkeeping, General, and Legal Office.
- Possible Careers: Administrative assistant, bookkeeping assistant, accounting technician, receptionist
