Hosted by the Side Family Centre for Entrepreneurial Excellence (CEE) in partnership with subject matter experts, the session will deliver practical insights for small and medium enterprise (SME) business owners exploring a sale, considering an acquisition, or simply seeking to better understand their company’s value.

Guest Speakers

Tom Minogue, CPA, CA, CF, is a Partner with MNP’s Corporate Finance team in Grande Prairie. Tom works closely with business owners to understand their situation and goals and provides customized solutions in the areas of business planning, financial planning and tax planning.

Drawing on more than 10 years of experience working with privately owned businesses, Tom helps business owners with strategy, succession planning, mergers & acquisitions and tax planning. His clients are owners of privately held businesses, primarily in the oilfield services and real estate industries. With in-depth experience, Tom delivers strong advice and innovative solutions to help clients achieve their goals and maximize the value of their businesses.

Tom has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Athabasca University and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (CA) in 2008. In 2014, he received his Corporate Finance (CF) designation from CPA Canada.


James Robertson, CFA, is a Director with BDC’s Growth & Transition Capital team based out of Edmonton. The Growth & Transition Capital group offers financing solutions on flexible terms to both mid-market and high-revenue Canadian companies through non-dilutive, unsecured custom financing to support growth or for businesses in transition including management buyouts and M&A. James has 25+ years of financial industry experience working with Canadian entrepreneurs, is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and a B.Comm (Hons) graduate.


Todd Strang, Barrister & Solicitor, is a Senior Partner at KMSC LAW, where he has practiced since 2004. With over two decades of experience in corporate commercial law, Todd’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, business sales, and corporate reorganizations. He is recognized for his practical, client-centred approach and his ability to guide businesses through complex transactions with clarity and confidence.

In addition to his legal practice, Todd serves as the firm’s partner managing technology. In this role, he oversees KMSC LAW’s technological infrastructure, ensuring the firm remains at the forefront of legal innovation. Under Todd’s leadership, KMSC LAW was nationally recognized and nominated in 2024 for the Canada Law Awards in the category of Best Use of Technology in a Law Firm.
