Through a tailored combination of remote and in-person program delivery, a dedicated group of 10 Tallcree community members have begun NWP’s Educational Assistant Certificate program. This supported learning opportunity is designed to help students build toward meaningful careers in education while earning credentials. “This partnership reflects our commitment to expanding learning pathways that are responsive, accessible, and rooted in community,” said Dr. Vanessa Sheane, President and CEO of Northwestern Polytechnic. “We are proud to support Tallcree students as they build the professional foundation to become future educators in the north.” Northwestern Polytechnic’s Educational Assistant Certificate prepares students to support teachers and enhance learning environments in schools. Students gain practical skills in classroom management, instructional support, and individualized student assistance, including strategies for working with diverse learners and students with special needs. The program combines hands-on experience with foundational education theory, equipping graduates to work effectively alongside educators in a variety of educational settings. The new partnership aligns with both organizations’ shared goal of fostering student success and increasing the number of qualified Educational Assistants serving local schools. “Through the partnership between Tallcree Education Authority and Northwestern Polytechnic, we are building a community of lifelong learners, where adults earn certifications and credits toward future degrees," said Chief Rupert Meneen, Tallcree Tribal Government. “Our youth will see, every day, what is possible when education is lived, not just taught.” The collaborative initiative is another example of how Northwestern Polytechnic is working to attract, train, and retain more education professionals in the North. This past fall, the institution welcomed its first cohort of Bachelor of Education – Elementary students, and in October 2025, NWP announced the addition of a new Bachelor of Education – Secondary degree. Recognizing the value of giving high schoolers a head start on future programs and career options, NWP is also working with local school divisions on dual-credit pathways in education, early learning, trades, health, and business.
