Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016

GRANDE PRAIRIE – GPRC is funding the first phase of a project to determine new post-secondary opportunities including the potential of a new world-class culinary arts program in Jasper.
GPRC continues to assess the community support for the project. GPRC hosted a roundtable session with representatives from the Jasper Town Council, Jasper Chamber of Commerce, Jasper Legion, Tourism Jasper and Parks Canada today in Jasper to determine the level of support to proceed with the project.
“Essential to the success of initiatives, such as the unique destination programming we envision, is the required tangible support of the community. GPRC responds to the needs of the community when launching new programs, and securing real commitment in the community is the first step in the process,” said GPRC President and CEO Don Gnatiuk.
The roundtable discussion updated the invited group of stakeholders on the project’s background and GPRC presented the proposed steps to move the project forward fueled by community demand and commitment.
“The community response I heard today is very encouraging and is a positive step forward for the viability of this project. There is a lot of work ahead and we will continue to work closely with the community of Jasper to confirm the commitment we heard today. That will give us the base we need to start looking at various models this program could resemble,” said Gnatiuk.
This phase of this project will continue until late 2016 at which point the level of community and industry support will determine the viability of the project.
