This course further explores principles and practices of Typography with an emphasis on digital design. Students will study the significant influence of type with particular emphasis on contemporary and emerging approaches. Utilizing skills from Typography I, students create digital projects intended for print media.

This course provides an in-depth engagement with colour theory through studio-based practices as it relates to graphic design. Students engage in projects that broaden their understanding of the cultural and aesthetic implications of colour.

This course builds on Digital Design I, expanding students’ knowledge of design software platforms. Through a combination of lectures and projects students will work with increasingly complex and nuanced approaches to design. Projects will focus on integrating a broader engagement with design contexts and contemporary trends, including the integration of AI in the design process.

This course will focus on the fundamentals of working and designing in three-dimensional virtual space. Students will develop the basics of 3D modelling including concepts, program navigation, digital tools, and proper techniques for modeling simple sculptural objects.

The origins and development of theatre art; introduction to theatre aesthetics; group exploration of some of the craft and experience of theatre performance; attendance at live theatre performances.

How do you turn a play into a theatre production? Students will analyze play scripts and use their imaginations to suggest possible ways to stage the plays, paying attention to dramaturgy, design, directing, and acting. Students will also attend live theatre performances to analyze design and directing decisions in action.

This is a production-based course where learning is centered on acting in a major drama production. Production will be determined by the instructor. Enrollment by audition and casting in the production.

    • Permission of the instructor based upon audition

This is a practical production-dependent stage tech course tied to the Mainstage Production. Students enrolled in this course will apply knowledge from DR1910 in assisting to mount, run, and take down the mainstage show.

Speech and movement improvisation with an emphasis on imaginative development will be included. It will be an introduction to the process of acting and to dramatic form.

Advanced acting role in the Drama Department Mainstage production. This course encompasses the rehearsal and performance process, which will be compressed into a 8 to 10 week period. Enrollment through audition process.

Students will examine how markets and governments determine which products are produced and how income is distributed in the Canadian economy. Topics include supply and demand, costs, and perfect and imperfect competition.

Employment, inflation, international payments, monetary policy, and fiscal policy, all in the Canadian economy are topics explored in this course.

In this course, students will develop their knowledge of Indigenous peoples’ histories, educational experiences and knowledge systems, and will further develop their understanding of the significant connections between such knowledge and the professional roles and obligations of teachers. The course will prepare pre-service teachers to implement Indigenous knowledge, and gain understanding about Ways of Knowing and traditions, including land-based teachings and practices from traditional knowledge holders.

This course is an exploration of the diversity of learners within an inclusive classroom. Course content will focus on knowledge of exceptionalities, inclusive learning, universal design for learning, differentiated instruction, accommodations, referral procedures, collaboration skills, and development of individual program plans. Students will also focus on the importance of inclusive learning environments. Students will develop a vision and philosophy of inclusion in education.

An introductory investigation of the school context from the vantage points of students, teachers and others involved in education. The course includes 3 hours of on-campus work each week and 30-40 hours of field experience in both elementary and secondary classrooms over the term.

A 30 hour observation course in which student teachers are assigned to a working teacher in a classroom setting. This course is intended to supplement the practicum experience offered in ED2510.

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to foundational instructional processes informed by cognitive science, blending theory and practice with collaborative reflection to prepare students for effective teaching. Through a cyclical process of theoretical coursework, micro-teaching, and reflection on practice, students deepen their understanding of essential teaching frameworks, lesson planning, instructional design, and assessment practices. Coursework emphasizes unpacking curriculum to design engaging, meaningful activities and lessons for diverse classroom settings. Students will develop skills in differentiating instruction through inclusive teaching strategies and classroom management, enabling them to support progress across multiple grade levels and meet the needs of all learners.

This course will explore foundational concepts and theories central to effective instruction in K-6 social studies classrooms. This course aims to introduce students’ understanding of pedagogical approaches for presenting historical and contemporary principles, ideas, and knowledge within meaningful contexts, with a focus on culturally responsive teaching to better plan, prepare and teach students in an elementary social studies context. Students will engage in developing an understanding, respect, and appreciation for the histories, cultures, languages, contributions, perspectives, and contemporary experiences of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples.

This course examines foundational concepts, practices, and skills relevant to science education. Pedagogical perspectives and knowledge of child development will broaden students’ understanding of the role of a teacher in fostering wonder and connecting science to children’s everyday lives. A focus will be placed on instructional approaches allowing for curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry while exploring curriculum. Students develop skills in designing, implementing, and assessing engaging learning experiences to gain confidence and preparedness for teaching science to diverse learners.
