GPRC Men’s Basketball started the season at home versus Kings University. The Wolves started out the game slow, and trailed by five at half time. After half time, Kings extended their lead to 21 points with a barrage of three pointers by Cameron Bush and Jamen Young. The Wolves were able to mount a comeback not seen very often. Trailing 81-67 in the mid-fourth quarter, the Wolves went on to score 16 unanswered points, eventually winning the game 86-82. The Wolves were led by Kenny Johnson, who had 36 points and 12 rebounds. The Kings were led by Cameron Bush with 23 points.
Coach Slifka noted that “Kings did a great job getting out in transition and getting a lot of easy looks in this game. Our guys stayed composed, even when down big, and we were able to pull out a solid win.”
On Saturday, the Wolves led by three points going into half time, 35-32. GPRC was able to extend the lead to 9 points heading into the 4th quarter. In the 4th it was all Wolves, as they won the quarter, and the final result was 70-46. The 46 point total is the lowest points allowed by a GPRC Men’s Basketball team in at least twenty years, beating the previous low of 52 allowed versus Lakeland last November.
“Our guys did a good job adjusting to Kings in the second day. We defended with a bit more purpose and we moved the ball more efficiently as a team“ said Slifka, happy with the men's performance.
This upcoming week, the Wolves host the perennial powerhouse Lakeland Rustlers at home for two pivotal games in the playoff hunt. Come out and support your Wolves at 8:00pm Friday and 3:00pm Saturday, in the GPRC Gym.
