The GPRC Wolves travelled to Fort McMurray this weekend, where they faced a heavily stacked men’s team. The Wolves lost heavily to the Huskies 5-1 on Saturday and 8 -1 on Sunday, with rookie striker, Luis Blais-Ventura scoring the Wolves only goal on Saturday. Multi-sport athlete and defender Sean Douglas scored from the penalty spot after Blais-Ventura was fouled by the keeper in Sunday’s game and earned player of the game for his performance.
Despite working hard in both games, individual errors cost the men dearly on both days. The Wolves will lick their wounds and use this loss as a learning experience for upcoming games.
The Wolves Women put in an excellent performance this weekend recording 5-1 win on Saturday and an 8-0 win Sunday. Solidifying the Wolves offensive attack, Forward, Chelsea Fitzgerald scored 4 goals in Saturdays game adding to her single goal on Sunday. 3rd year, Midfielder, Kennedy Hall scored a brace, her first one a wonder strike from 30 yards. Other scorers were local products, veteran, Jessica Winterford and rookie GPRC Wolves Athlete of the Week, Janai Martens.
Notable performances for the Women’s team were ACAC All Conference Athlete, Brooklyn Robert in defense and the versatile Midfielder, Taylor Watson.
The Wolves host the Concordia Thunder from Edmonton this upcoming weekend in their Season Home Opener. The Women at 2pm and the Men 4pm on Saturday and 11am and 1pm on Sunday.
