NWP Graduate Chantal Pearson
Chantal Pearson is a graduate of Northwestern Polytechnic's Business Administration diploma program, where she majored in management. Originally from Jamaica, Chantal moved to Canada in search of new opportunities, and was drawn to the polytechnic's impressive reputation and educational track record. Despite the culture shock and the cold weather, Chantal soon found a home and lasting connections at Northwestern Polytechnic, where she thrived both academically and personally.
During her two-year diploma, Chantal developed a strong sense of independence and self-confidence. As a naturally shy person, she found it difficult to speak up in public settings, but her classes and presentations helped her to find her voice. "In time, I have become more outgoing and much more comfortable talking to large groups," says Chantal.
Chantal credits her success to NWP’s supportive environment and in particular her various instructors, who were "interested in my well-being and eager to see me grow and succeed." The small class sizes also allowed Chantal to form close relationships with her peers, many of whom she now considers her best friends.
One of Chantal's proudest moments was discovering her passion for marketing and advertising through her coursework. "It just felt like the right thing," she says. Working together with classmates during an advertising course, she engaged directly with clients to create content and compelling advertisements. "Interacting with the clients felt really fulfilling," she says.
As part of another interactive course focused on project management, Chantal's group had the opportunity to choose a charity and organize a fundraising event.
Chantal's experience at Northwestern Polytechnic has inspired her to pursue her entrepreneurial dreams. She is currently exploring the idea of starting a pet-sitting venture, a vending machine business, and a hydroponic farm. The agriculture idea sprouted following a research project in her business communication class. "It's farming without soil, so it's more environmentally friendly," she explains. "I think it would be good for the environment and it’s quite interesting to me."
As a recent graduate, Chantal is now applying for jobs and looking to gain more financial stability before embarking on her entrepreneurial ventures. She is confident that her education and experiences at Northwestern Polytechnic have prepared her for whatever comes next. Chantal also has advice for prospective students.
"Don't be scared. Just push forward. Even if you start on a course that maybe you aren't enjoying, there are always other avenues,” she says. “At NWP there is plenty of support and you can easily branch out into other areas that you may love."
Chantal's journey at Northwestern Polytechnic showcases the transformative power of education. With hard work, dedication, and a supportive community, Chantal has overcome challenges and discovered her passion.
