Bev Buckway graduated from the Agriculture program (Livestock Production) at Fairview College, the only female in the class of 1974. She recently obtained an MA from Royal Roads in Professional Communication and values the principles of life-long learning. Born in Whitehorse and raised in the Yukon, she began her first term as councillor in 2003 and in 2006 defeated the incumbent mayor and has served two terms as Mayor of Whitehorse. She is Past President of the Association of Yukon Communities, Board Member for the 2012 Arctic Winter Games Host Society, and past member of the executive of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. Bev chaired the Northern and Remote Forum, and served on the Community Safety and Crime Prevention and the Social-Economic Development Committees. Her most recent appointment was that of Prairies and Territories representative to the Joint Committee on Community Corrections. A former professional curler, she has represented the Yukon at both the Canada Winter Games and the Scott Tournament of Hearts.
