Dr. Jeremy Begalke began an enriching journey at Grande Prairie Regional College in 1994, where he completed his first two years of post-secondary studies in the University Transfer Program. In his second year, he was honoured as the recipient of the 1996 Valedictorian Award. He then spent a year at an Edmonton Bible college before heading east to Ontario, obtaining his Doctor of Optometry degree in 2001.
Just a few months after graduating from the University of Waterloo’s School of Optometry & Vision Science, Dr. Jeremy Begalke, who now practices in Grande Prairie, was volunteering at his first eye clinic in a remote region in Mexico. Over the next five years, Begalke participated in three more volunteer eye care projects, bringing his medical expertise to villages in developing countries around the globe.
“Our eye care teams have come across many people confined to begging on the street just due to very poor vision,” he says. “A simple pair of glasses may be all it takes to give them functional vision. In North America we often take our sight for granted, but glasses can be literally life-changing for those who don't have access to eye care.”
