Sculpt Yourself a Career

Explore visual arts through drawing, painting, sculpture and design. Our facilities include a painting, drawing, and sculpture studio with a workshop for wood and ceramics, and a computer lab with static media and video editing capabilities. There are opportunities to exhibit work on campus in the Glass Gallery and in the community. Neighbouring resources include the Beaverlodge Art and Cultural Centre, the Centre for Creative Arts, and the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie.

A portfolio is not required for admission as our program offers a solid foundation for professional practice through lectures and hands-on learning. This diploma can transfer into a four-year degree at several distinguished art-focused institutions.

To be considered for admission, you must meet specific criteria, including English language proficiency and the following courses or equivalents:

  • High school diploma
  • English 30-1

A studio and lecture-based course with emphasis on the foundational principles and elements of 3D design, with a focus on the exploration of form, mass, volume, and space. Students will be guided through a variety of 3D mediums, materials, and processes, including safe handling protocols.

This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of painting. Students will focus on basic paint handling, application, colour mixing, and support preparation for acrylic and water-mixable oil paint. Compositionally students will focus on still lives, landscape, abstraction, and portraiture. Students will further develop their knowledge of colour theory and learn pigment identification, tool, and studio protocols.

This course is an introduction to the technical and conceptual aspects of digital design. Utilizing lectures, technical exercises, and creative projects, students will employ digital programs to process ideas and generate professionally designed digital outputs.
