Connection Grant | Feb 1, 2025 | Connection Grants are expected to respond to the objectives of the Research Partnerships program. These grants support events and outreach activities geared toward short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives. These events and activities represent opportunities to exchange knowledge and engage with participants on research issues they value. Events and outreach activities funded by a Connection Grant can often serve as a first step toward more comprehensive and longer-term projects. Connection Grants support workshops, colloquiums, conferences, forums, summer institutes or other events. SSHRC welcomes applications involving Indigenous research, as well as those involving research-creation. Applied Research and Development grants | Open | Applied Research and Development grants support research and development (R&D) projects led by college researchers in partnership with private, public or not-for-profit organizations while encouraging collaboration with universities and/or other colleges. This opportunity allows the development and strengthening of research links and collaborations between different institutions and/or partners that have a common goal of creating economic, social and/or environmental benefits while contributing to the research ecosystem continuum. The partner research goals can drive and define the broad spectrum of capacities necessary from one or more institutions, depending on the needs and availabilities while allowing the project to be led by an eligible Canadian college.

Ideas to Innovation Grants (NSERC) | Jan 8, 2025 | “The objective of Idea to Innovation (I2I) grants is to accelerate the pre-competitive development of promising technology originating from the university and college sector, and to promote its transfer to a new or established Canadian company. I2I grants provide funding to college and university faculty members to support research and development projects with recognized technology transfer potential. Partnership Engage Grants (SSHRC) | Dec 15, 2024 | "These grants provide short-term and timely support for partnered research activities that will inform decision-making at a single partner organization from the public, private or not-for-profit sector. The small-scale, stakeholder-driven partnerships supported through Partnership Engage Grants are meant to respond to immediate needs and time constraints facing organizations in non-academic sectors."

Insight Development Grant (SSHRC) | Feb 2, 2025 | “Insight Development Grants support research in its initial stages. The grants enable the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas. Funding is provided for short-term research development projects of up to two years that are proposed by individuals or teams. The Exceptional Opportunities Fund | Open | The CFI will fund a maximum of 40 percent of the total eligible costs of the infrastructure project. To qualify for this funding, a project must take advantage of an exceptional and time-sensitive opportunity and partnership that justifies having the project considered outside the normal pan-Canadian competitive review process; requires the coordination and financial support of other relevant agencies for the funding of the research, the infrastructure and its operations in a timely manner; and, the infrastructure component must be an indispensable element of the project. Projects that have already been reviewed, in whole or in part, by the CFI are not eligible.

AgriScience Program | Open | The AgriScience Program, under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP), aims to accelerate innovation by providing funding and support for pre-commercial science activities and research that benefits the agriculture and agri-food sector and Canadians. The maximum funding for any single project is $5 million over the duration of the program (2023 to 2028).

Mobilizing Insights in Defence and Security (MINDS)- Targeted Engagement Grants | Open | Funds are available for initiatives such as conferences, workshops, roundtables, research, publications, or any other project that aligns with Department of National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces (DND/CAF) policy priorities and helps inform current and future defence policy thinking in the Canadian context.

Regional Innovation Ecosystems (RIE) in the Prairie provinces | Open | Productivity improvement – includes technology transfer, including validation of needs, training and implementation of a new technology. Ecosystem capacity building – includes the development of strategic business alliances within a specific sector or cluster; research and analysis to identify barriers to scale-up and productivity enhancement within the sector/cluster.
