Topics include programming language paradigms (imperative, logic, functional and object-oriented), parameter passing, control structures, data types, typing mechanisms, binding rules, heap management, procedural languages, historical developments.

An introduction into advanced topics in the theory of computation. Topics include: basics of formal languages, models of computers, regular expressions, deterministic and nondeterministic finite automata, computability and computational complexity.

An introduction to the understanding and manipulation of various settings of operating systems in relation to hardware and software. Focus is on the configuration and installation of operating systems to achieve system optimization skills.

This course introduces computer communications and computer networks. Topics will include communication hardware and software, protocols, local area and wide area networks, and network management.

This course examines the Internet of Things (IoT), exploring how connected devices integrate into networks, the associated security risks, and strategies to mitigate common threats. Students will learn about IoT technologies and their impact on network security, analyzing risks introduced by connected devices and developing solutions to address these challenges.

This course introduces foundational cybersecurity concepts, focusing on threat mitigation strategies and compliance standards essential for IT professionals. Students will explore key cybersecurity principles, learning to identify threats, implement security measures and understand compliance requirements aligned with industry standards like CompTIA Security+.

This course introduces students to project management. The course will explore the entire life cycle of a project from inception to completion including project initiation, project planning, project execution, project monitoring and control, project completion. Students will learn the basic concepts of project management, the process to initiate and plan a project, what is required to execute, monitor and control project and the steps to close a project. Working in groups, students will be expected to develop and complete an approved project using the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). Students will learn to use MS Project to help manage their assigned projects.

This course requires students to continue engaging in an advanced industry placement to apply accumulated IT knowledge, solving real-world challenges under professional supervision. Students will build on their in-field experience by participating in a practical apprenticeship where they work on complex IT projects, enhancing problem-solving skills with guidance from industry mentors.

This course is an introduction to the technical and conceptual aspects of digital design. Utilizing lectures, technical exercises, and creative projects, students will employ digital programs to process ideas and generate professionally designed digital outputs.

This course provides an in-depth engagement with colour theory through studio-based practices as it relates to graphic design. Students engage in projects that broaden their understanding of the cultural and aesthetic implications of colour.

This course focuses on user and audience interactivity with digital interfaces. Through a combination of projects and lectures, students will gain an understanding of how to apply various research and assessment strategies to interactivity with users and audiences. Interactive Design involves research, prototypes and usability assessments as students consider how an audience and context relate to their design approaches.

Introduction to the elements and principles of web design. Through a combination of lectures, practical and theoretical projects, students learn the fundamentals of web design. The course applies many of the principles of design and typography to web-based platforms.

This course will focus on the fundamentals of working and designing in three-dimensional virtual space. Students will develop the basics of 3D modelling including concepts, program navigation, digital tools, and proper techniques for modeling simple sculptural objects.

This course combines the theory and practice from year 1 to engage with the broader ecosystem of project development. Digital Design III is a collaborative course that emphasizes professional communication and conceptual thinking. Students gain experience with the stages of design process in a studio environment, including research, ideation, as well as creative problem solving.

This course explores the theory and context of European theatre from ancient Greece to the Renaissance. Topics include: setting the stage, development and craft of mise-en-scene and of the relationship between the stage and the audience.

Students will examine how markets and governments determine which products are produced and how income is distributed in the Canadian economy. Topics include supply and demand, costs, and perfect and imperfect competition.

Understanding how to plan and establish successful classroom management techniques while ensuring student engagement is a crucial part of effective teaching at all grade levels. In this course, key aspects will be explored to equip pre-service teachers with strategies and skills to establish positive, structured, and supportive learning environments. Emphasis is placed on embedding classroom organization and management techniques into every lesson and regular routines. Through applied practice and reflection, students will develop multiple strategies conducive to smooth classroom functioning and optimal student engagement.

This course prepares pre-service teachers to inclusively support and educate children with complex learning, communication, behavioural, physical, developmental, and multiple exceptionalities in Canadian schools. Students will develop knowledge and skills in evidence-informed instructional strategies, inclusive classrooms, and trauma-informed approaches. Special emphasis is placed on supporting students with complex medical needs, emotional and behavioural disabilities, and mental health challenges. Through case studies, literature analysis, reflective activities, and practical assignments, students will acquire the tools to create inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environments that promote equitable access, participation, and meaningful learning for all students.

This course introduces students to foundational concepts and application of educational technology in the 21st-century classroom. Students will move beyond using technology to evaluating and designing learning experiences that leverage the unique affordances of digital tools to strengthen learning for children and adolescents. Students will gain pedagogical strategies linked to school curriculum and understand the role of educators in equipping K-12 learners with digital literacy skills to better prepare them for global and digital citizenship.

This course provides an introductory investigation of the school context from the vantage point of students, teachers and others involved in K-12 education. The course includes both lectures and 30-40 hours of field experience in elementary and secondary classrooms over the term.
